This is the only picture I saw when I browsed through that thread, and it struck me for naught as Tinkerbell. It doesn't maintain the illusion of being Tink for me. Maybe it was the lack of green armour that resembles the slip (easy to come by for an Elementialist) or the crop (which is what I thought my problem was last week and worked hard to fix) but it does nothing for me. Tinkerbell is not big, she is supposed to be small, any of the pictures that I had of a larger scale of Geisha I did not like because they didn't fit the theme.
Again, I would feel completely different if I had not been assigned to be Tink, but there is nothing I can do now.

This is bullshit - Geisha had the best photo of the week, and probably the best photo of this whole cycle - and you kick her out? Bullshit.
I could see if I were kicked out, because I admit my photo was bad but hers was amazing...especially since you gave her little to nothing to work with. Whatever. RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO this competition.

I like how you're really supportive of your contestants, it's really nice of you. But I personally didn't find hers the "best" (its all subjective, right?) of the week. Yes, it was HARD, but there are MILLIONS of ways to have portrayed tinkerbell. Geisha was creative about it, but utterly lost the modeling aspect of it... besides, its not the end of the world for her.
And i thought I was drama last cycle >.>
GO MILA GO!! I told you you were going to do well... keep it up!

I dont want to have to take any action so please keep the profanity and all the nasty away from the threads and keep them private... Personally, if someone was the center of the picture, but noone cares to look at her, then what is the use? So what does the modeling aspect mean to you?
|
To me, the modelling aspect would be depending on what the creative director (judges in this case) wanted. Haute Couture or commercial, for example, even action shots sometimes. The judges usually ask for editorial/high fashion like shots, but there are exceptions.
Just being the center of attention isn't enough for fashion photography.. what is the main purpose of fashion? The clothing. Like you said, Mila's was gorgeous, and the blue dress even matched Jasmine's. On top of that, she looked slender, and was able to portray the dress and theme in a sophisticated/romantic fashion.
Geisha had creativity, LOTS of it. The play on perception is probably the most creative thing to come out of TNTM. However, it can easily be deciphered as the male being the model instead of Geisha. Unless I knew Geisha created this shoot, I would have thought this photoshoot was about Peter Pan. He's an attractive model, the clothing (Especially the boots!) is visible, and most importantly, your eyes are directed straight at him first! I would have thought tinkerbell was an accessory in this shoot. The shot itself is brilliant, but not for this competition, unfortunately. The Tinkerbell shoot is definetely very hard, but without being too literal, there are many ways to portray a more fantastical world.
Tinkerbell = Faery, and the FIRST thing that I thought of was Lily Cole's June (or July, heh) shoot for Vogue Italia:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/lilycole.jpg
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...lilycole-1.jpg
Of course it's impossible to recreate such details in GW, but with Geisha's creativity anything was possible. I believe it was only a poor decision and lack of understanding of the judge's demands. I wish her best of luck!
We also have to take in account last week's shot. 75% of her body is cut from the entire shoot, only with the face remaining. It was a very moody and serene piece, but once again, the focus on clothes/body/proportions weren't there.

Eek!*hides*
Lol, I had just started the character so I had no green armor.
Anyways, I think Geisha's creativity was amazing. The illusion of size worked wonders. Heh, as shown by the quality of my shot, Tink was VERY hard. Nobody is denying that you were amazingly inventive. However, you slightly disappeared. I'm sorry to see you go, you really blew me away this week

I didn't mean to hurt you, and if I did, I'm sorry. I guess I was just caught up in the moment and seeing the response heated me up a little bit.
BTW I would really like to see that picture you took with some changes when you get farther in. Maybe GGY dyed Kurzick armor and a better crop would make that picture perfect (remember to leave the gloves and boots off!)
To noocoo: One would think that the judges would have thought about that when coming up with the assignment. If it was supposed to be fashiony and they knew it wasn't going to work, why would they assign it?

I believe this is a fashion model contest.
Geisha's photo is amazing, but who would go buying a fashion magazine with a model who is as small as your little finger?

I really hope Beyonce goes far into the competition. She clearly understands what sells America's Next Top Model. <3s for importing the drama to Tyria.

Lol, I wasn't hurt. But thanks for the apology. By the way Beyoncee, your first week picture was excellent, which probably aided you in the judging. As for all the drama thats going on I'm kind of dissapointed in everyone.

Like Seamus said, all the drama from ANTM is immigrating over to Guild wars!!
Besides, a little spice never hurts... it just makes it more obvious who will do well or not.

Wow... well congrats Mila again for another well deserved MOTW <3 Just a beautiful shot.
(Just so I don't make the same mistake again, is my partial deduction for not sending the male models name in the original note, and sending it later? )
And oh my goodness to all the drama... o.0

The PR Campaign
Success in this competition needs to be won on two sides of the battlefield, the first side being the assignments, the second being your posts within the forum. In order for you to get go further in this competition you will not only need to produce excellent pictures, but you will also have to post worthwhile replys on the forums. During my time in this competition I had a calculated PR campaign to give both the forum viewers and Judges a broader look into myself and my portfolio. These are some tips I went by to further myself in the competition.
- Do not post rejected pictures using the same emote/location/setup as the one you will be submitting for judgement. This removes the surprise effect and gives the judges a false sense that you are not dynamic.
- Do not overpost! especially rejected pictures, try to select one or two really nice ones that may have been another choice for submission. You want to keep quality high, not quanitity.
- Select your non-assignment pictures carefuly. Remember once you've used something once, it's old news even if it wasn't officially submitted. Once it's on the forums it's a frame of reference and you will be judged in the future comparitivly. So don't waste a good shot.
- Don't be Boring! not posting at all is almost worse than posting something stupid. Keep the talk fresh and lively. throw in a laugh or two here or there to show them you are not a robot.
- Post well when you are weak. Keep a nice shot or two in backup for those desperate times between saturday and sunday. When you feel you may be eliminated, show them something nice it may just save you.
- Try to stay in a good light. The more bad drama you start, the better your pictures must be. There also comes a point where no matter how good your pictures are, no one will want you to win, so post wisely.
These are the rules I tried to follow in the first season and I do think they helped for the most part. Every post I made was calculated, even though some ended up backfiring. So just remember there is more to this competition than the assignemnt, and think well before you post.

Ok, I totally get "tinkerbell" from Jaden's shot. Flying, green outfit (yeah, it's not a slip, so what?), pirate ship in the background.

As do I, that is why she is the champ! The only thing I do not like is that she is so big, but it is still a picture that shows the Tink spirit. Lovely shot Jaden!
On another note, I am done commenting about the debacle. If you have questions or comments PM me or Lady Nilene. I feel bad for dragging this on so far in public when I shouldn't have. Good Luck everyone.

If she had the CE aura and adjusted the angle/zoom to appear just a *little* smaller, it would be 100% perfect.

i think the only thing that everyone missed while tryingto shoot Tink is to use paragon wings.......
i would try it if i could log on, but when i log on its for a few hours and i don't have that luxury at this time
*grumbles something that is not allowed of forums about exams*
=/
about jaden's tip, your image on the forums is very important. when it was us 2, the diffrence was 15 (?) votes! you will want to keep your fan base as big as you can. if you are liked by the fans, it might save you from elimination on earlier rounds too.
And i always liked posting those screens that turned out funny, it makes the thread more fun in my opinion. i always had a few since i used to take like 100 shots per minute to get the perfect pose i had in my mind. it just keeps the thread alive and keeps you in spotlight

Oh, the drama.... I gotta agree with Geishe, a little spice is interesting. But models, just remember that harsh words and overheated drama can be VERY risky when it comes to later assignments. Just look up on last Cycle. Even in real life, unless you're already a big name nobody likes to work with a temperamental model, and you may just get kicked out for that.
Here's another tip from me to the models: You probably will not always agree with the judges, but straight out bullshitting and rude outbursts are not a good thing to post in the forums. Wait until you've calmed down a bit, and then politely point out your own point of view. Or better yet, just keep your peace and don't post anything at all if you think you have nothing nice to say. Like Jaden pointed out, it's all about good PR and not just your looks.
I also remember vaguely that in the rules, it was written that this contest would raise emotions and they were looking for models who could actually keep their cool through it all. Please don't disappoint us.
I love Jaden's version of Tinkerbell. She really shows that while Tink is small, you can still portray her wonderfully in a big way. Taking a shot from Tink's perspective works really well - I'm sure she doesn't see herself as really tiny whenever she looks at herself in the mirror. In assignments like this, you have to think creatively, and while Geisha's shot was just amazing (one of my favourites creativity-wise), she just lost the modeling aspect of it. Peter Pan outshone her in that shot, and doesn't Tink just want a little more attention and to be bigger even in the movie?
As for the rest of the models, great job! And congratulations on getting to the next round! I can't wait to see what you come up with for the next assignment.

Wh00t drama :'D! Congratulations to Mila for winning MotW again, it was a good shot, though very very similar to your first one. I'm also positively surprised how well my own shot fared, thank you <3. I must admit ~2 years with the aura have made it so I hardly notice it anymore myself, unless it happens to cover some important areas like face or hands. I must remember to be more careful in future assignments.
I also agree that Geisha's shot was really ingenious and right on the mark, but it had lost that important "modeling" aspect.
I'm very excited about the next assignment~!
